Q.  Are there any age restrictions?

One of the common misconceptions regarding eligibility for the Scheme is that there is an upper age limit - this is not the case. In fact a third of our customers are aged over 65. As long as you already receive one of the relevant allowances , you are eligible for the Scheme. The confusion happens as the DWP does have an upper age limit of 64 for people who would like to apply for disability related benefits for the very first time. If you are applying for disability related benefits for the first time and are aged 65 or over, the DWP will ask you to register a claim for Attendance Allowance, which you are not able to use to join the Scheme.

Q.  How do I qualify?

To lease a car through Motability, you must have at least 12 months’ award length remaining. Only the higher or enhanced rate of the mobility allowance is used. Please note that the Attendance Allowance cannot be used to lease a car through Motability. As of 6 April 2015, the weekly allowance rates are as follows: Higher Rate Mobility Component of Disability Living Allowance Enhanced Rate of the Mobility Component of Personal Independence Payment; Armed Forces Independence Payment: £57.45 War Pensioners' Mobility Supplement: £64.15

Q.  Drive From Wheelchair Vehicles (DFWs)

However, it’s important to remember that these vehicles are an expensive option and take much longer to arrive.
